Baby Hat

My girls' art teacher is about to deliver a baby girl. I made her this crochet infant hat as a gift.

Die Kunstlehrerin meiner zwei Mädels steht kurz vor der Geburt eines kleinen Mädchens. Ich habe ihr fürs Baby diese Mütze gehäkelt.  

 

Loop Scarves

Whatever you call them - loop scarves or infinity scarves - I just love them! I made three of them.
Ich liebe Loopschals und habe gleich drei genäht.

One with 2 different ultra-soft fleece fabrics:

Little Felted Balls and Beads

I learned how to needle felt these little balls after a short demonstration from my neighbor Mary. I wanted to use them as beads for necklaces and bracelets, but decided they also looked good as decorative items on my kitchen table. Take a look below.

Meine Nachbarin Mary hat mir gezeigt wie man Filzperlen mit einer Filznadel herstellt. Ich wollte die kleinen Bälle eigentlich für Schmuck, habe aber festgestellt, dass sie sich auch gut als dekorative Artikelchen machen. 

 

For this dangle charm, I adorned the yellow felt bead with sewed on red seed beads.

Für diesen Taschenbaumler habe ich die gelbe Filzperle mit  kleinen roten Glasperlen bestickt.

New Necklace

Another necklace I made as a gift. I used shell and glass beads as well as metal findings for this one.

Hier noch eine Halskette aus Perlmutter-,Glas- und Metallwaren, die ich als Geschenk gemacht habe.  

Warm Sweater

I finished this sweater just in time for cold weather. The temperatures are dropping here, but no snow yet.
This is another one of my easy, quick sweaters made of simple rectangles - this time with long tapered sleeves. Keeps me oh so warm!

Es wird jetzt auch langsam kalt hier. Die Temperaturen fallen, aber Schnee hatten wir noch keinen. Dieser Pullover ist zur rechten Zeit fertig geworden. Er ist aus einfachen Rechtecken gestrickt und hält mich schön warm. 

Mini Make-up Roll

I sewed this mini make-up roll with 5" squares from a charm pack. The instructions are on Make.

Ich habe diese Mini-Makeup-Rolle aus 5 Inch Charm Vierecken genäht. Die Anleitung könnt ihr auf Make finden. 

Hand Warmers

During this time of year I always have cold hands. I don't like to wear gloves, because they restrict what I can do with my hands. That's why I like hand warmers; they keep me relatively warm, but leave my fingers free to do whatever I want. These are very easy and quick to make. Just knit in a circle and once you get to the thumb,  knit and turn for a few rounds instead of going in a circle. Once your thumb opening is big enough, resume knitting in a circle. Easy! I used an elastic yarn which will keep the hand warmers in their original shape, even through a lot of use.

Um diese Jahreszeit habe ich immer kalte Hände. Ich trage nicht gerne Handschuhe, weil sie beschränken, was ich mit meinen Händen tun kann. Deshalb mag ich Handwärmer. Sie halten mich relativ warm, aber lassen meine Finger frei, damit ich tun kann was ich will. Sie sind sehr leicht und schnell zu stricken. Man strickt einfach im Kreis ein Bündchen wie für Socken und sobald man auf Daumenhöhe gelangt, strickt man für ein paar Runden hin und her anstatt im Kreis. Wenn die Daumenöffnung groß genug ist, strickt man wieder im Kreis. Easy! Ich habe eine elastischeWolle benutzt; weil die Handwärmer ihre Form besser halten, auch wenn sie oft getragen werden.

Dress Revamp

I bought this bib dress a few years ago because I liked the color and pattern of the fabric. Of course, I never wore it. It made me look like a sack of potatoes. The other day, I came across it in my closet and decided to give it a makeover. So I went in search of a matching t-shirt which I found at the local Kohl's.

Vor ein paar Jahren habe ich ein Latz-Kleid gekauft weil mir die Farbe und das Stoffmuster gefiel. Natürlich hab ich's nie getragen, weil ich darin wie ein Kartoffelsack aussah. Vor ein paar Tagen hab ich dann in meinem Schrank das lang vergessene Kleid wieder entdeckt und mich entschlossen es einer Verbesserung zu unterstellen. So bin ich dann auf die Suche für ein passendes T-shirt gegangen. Ich hab auch gleich eins bei Kohl's gefunden.

Then I cut off the bib of the dress

Ich hab den Latz abgeschnitten

and the bottom of the newly acquired t-shirt

und den unteren Teil des T-shirts

sewed the two together, added an elastic to the empire waist, ... and here is my new dress! 

die zwei Stücke zusammen genäht, ein Gummiband zur Empire-Taille dazugefügt, ... und hier ist mein neues Kleid!

I like it a lot better now.

Es gefällt mir jetzt viel besser.

The Green Grocery Bag Challenge is a project to encourage sewists to wrap their holiday gifts in reusable cloth grocery bags, thus reducing the amount of wrapping paper entering the waste stream while simultaneously getting multi-use bags into the hands of consumers (the gift recipients.) Ein Festtagsnähprojekt von dem Mutter Erde profitiert. Die Challenge ist ein Projekt um Nähbegeisterte zu ermutigen, ihre Weihnachtsgeschenke in wiederverwendbare Stoffeinkaufstüten zu wickeln, wodurch die Menge des Geschenkpapiers, die in die Abfallentsorgung gelangt reduziert wird, während gleichzeitig  multi-use Säcke in die Hände der Verbraucher (Geschenkempfänger) gebracht werden.

Personally, I have been reusing gift bags for years. I just feel awful about all the wrapping paper waste. Gifts can look pretty just wrapped in fabric. If you have the time, sew some bags from scraps or other pretty fabric! I also use yarn leftovers and fabric strips as ribbon - another way to recycle!

Schon seit Jahren verwende ich Geschenktüten wieder. Ich finde es einfach furchtbar wieviel unnötigen Abfall wir produzieren. Geschenke sehen auch hübsch aus in Stoff gehüllt. Wenn ihr Zeit habt, näht doch ein paar Geschenksäcke von Resten oder andern hübschen Stoffen!  Ich benutze auch Wollreste und Stoffstreifen als Ribbon - noch mehr recycling!

Moebius Shawl

A friend of mine gave we some Noro Silk Garden yarn and I decided to crochet this shawl with it.

Eine Freundin beschenkte mich mit ein paar Noro Silk Garden Wollknäueln. Daraus habe ich diesen Schal gehäkelt. 
 

It can be worn the conventional way

Er kann ganz konventionell getragen werden

or pulled over the shoulders

oder über die Schultern gezogen

 

Even though I used a "fishnet" type of pattern, the shawl is surprisingly warm.

Obwohl ich ein Netzmuster verwendet habe, ist der Schal doch überraschend warm.

Table Runner

Remember last month I posted some tutorials from the blogosphere as inspiration for Christmas gifts? Well, I made one of them - the table runner (tutorial by Diary of a Quilter). I used Christmas fabrics and quite like the way it turned out.

Mosaic Table

My table is finished. I am not sure about the grout; I was aiming for a darker turquoise... Well, I guess I can always re-grout it.

Mein Mosaiktisch ist fertig. Ich bin mir wegen der Fugenfarbe noch nicht ganz sicher. Eigentlich hatte ich ein dunkleres Türkis geplant...

Mosaic Garden Balls

Mosaic update

I have to take a couple of days off from crafting, because I cut up my fingers pretty badly when working with the stained glass for the mosaic. I didn't wear gloves to brake and cut the glass, hence my hands suffered. Anyway, here are a couple of pictures of my work in progress. I can't wait to get back to it!

Ich muss ein paar Tage frei nehmen vom Handwerken, weil ich meine Finger bei der Arbeit mit dem Glas für das Mosaik ziemlich schlimm geschnitten habe. Ich habe zum Schneiden und Brechen des Glases keine Handschuhe getragen und deshalb haben meine Hände gelitten. Hier sind ein paar Bilder von meinem jetzt noch unvollendetem Mosaik. Ich kann kaum warten, bis ich weiter machen kann!
